confidence coaching

A dedicated space to understand what's shaping your confidence, not just how to project it.

Confidence coaching gives you a dedicated space to explore what’s affecting how you see yourself and your abilities. Whether you’re stepping into something new, facing more responsibility, or finding yourself held back by self-doubt, coaching helps you understand what’s really going on, and respond with more confidence.

why now

People often come to confidence coaching when they find themselves questioning their own judgement.

You might be facing a new challenge, speaking up more, leading others, changing direction, or simply finding yourself in situations that expose real self-doubt. Sometimes confidence has been knocked by a setback, criticism, or a difficult period.

Confidence isn’t something you either have or don’t. It shifts over time, shaped by your experiences, relationships, and the situations you find yourself in. A lack of confidence rarely reflects a lack of ability. Some of the most capable people I’ve worked with have gone through periods of real self-doubt.

A lack of confidence rarely means a lack of ability.

my approach

Many confidence coaching approaches focus on positive thinking or techniques to increase self belief. Mine starts with understanding.

I’m a Chartered Counselling Psychologist and an EMCC Senior Practitioner Coach, and across more than 25 years in psychology, psychotherapy, coaching, and supervision, my interest has never simply been helping people feel more confident. It’s understanding what’s shaping their confidence in the first place.

Confidence is usually shaped by experience, assumptions, relationships, and the stories we tell ourselves about what we’re capable of. That background lets me work at real depth with where your confidence has come from, while keeping the work practical and focused on how you want to respond now.

the work

Conversations often cover self-doubt, visibility, decision making, performance anxiety, or situations where confidence feels genuinely hard to access.

Sometimes it’s one specific situation. At other times it’s a broader look at how confidence has developed over time.

Confidence isn’t really about eliminating uncertainty. More often it’s about developing the capacity to move forward despite it, while staying connected to your own values and judgement.

a good fit

This suits people who want more than confidence building exercises or motivational technique. Many of the people who come to confidence coaching are capable, experienced people who want to understand themselves more clearly and what’s contributing to their current difficulty.

It’s particularly useful if you recognise that confidence is shaped by a genuine mix of experience and circumstance, not simply a lack of positive thinking.

Discovery Call

No commitment — just a conversation.
Moving forward despite uncertainty,
not waiting for it to disappear.

working with people, not job titles

A single Focused Coaching Session often suits one specific situation where confidence has become an issue. Ongoing Psychologically Informed Coaching suits working through this over a longer period. A regular Thinking Space gives you a standing point to keep reflecting as things develop.

All sessions take place online via Zoom, so you can work with me wherever you are, at a time that fits.

Common Questions

What is confidence coaching?

A dedicated space to explore self-doubt and the factors shaping how you see yourself and your abilities, with the aim of understanding your situation more clearly, not simply feeling more positive.

Does a lack of confidence mean something is wrong with me?

Confidence changes over time and is shaped by your experiences, relationships, and circumstances. Many highly capable people experience periods of real self-doubt.

Will this help with a specific situation, like an important presentation or a new role?

Yes. Coaching can focus on one specific situation you’re facing, or on the broader pattern behind several situations, whichever is more useful to you.

What's the difference between coaching and therapy?

Coaching focuses on your circumstances now and how you want to respond. Therapy more often addresses psychological distress directly. My work is informed by my background as a psychologist, but coaching stays a distinct service, focused on how you want to move forward.
